The name ABBA is an acronym of the first letters of the band members' names: Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. It was Benny Andersson who came up with the name, and the band members all agreed that it was a good choice.

Agnetha Fältskog, born in Sweden in 1950, was a singer and songwriter who became famous as a member of the popular Swedish pop group, ABBA. Before joining ABBA, Fältskog was already an established singer in Sweden, having released several successful singles as a solo artist.
In 1972, Fältskog met Bjorn Ulvaeus, a member of the Swedish pop group, The Hootenanny Singers, at a concert. Ulvaeus was impressed with Fältskog's voice and asked her to collaborate with him on a song. The two began working together and soon fell in love.
Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad joined ABBA band in the early 1970s. Benny had previously been a member of the popular Swedish pop group, The Hep Stars, and was a well-known musician in Sweden.
Anni-Frid, on the other hand, was a relative newcomer to the music scene. After being introduced to Benny and the other members of ABBA, Anni-Frid was invited to sing with the group, and the rest is history.
In 1974 they made it to Eurovision. ABBA represented Sweden with their song "Waterloo," which went on to win the contest.
The band considered submitting another song to Eurovision, "Hasta Mañana", but decided on "Waterloo" since it gave equal weight to both vocalists Agnetha and Anni-Frid, while "Hasta Mañana" was sung only by Agnetha
“We had no idea that we could win this [Eurovision]. It came as a big surprise”
Agnetha, interview on Loose Women, 2013
ABBA’s participation in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest is considered one of the most iconic moments in the competition’s history.
The victory launched their international career and helped to establish Eurovision as a platform for launching successful music careers. Decades later, "Waterloo" remains one of ABBA’s most popular and recognizable songs.

Double Divorce
Agnetha Fältskog and Björn Ulvaeus announced their split in 1980. The couple’s relationship began to deteriorate as the band’s popularity soared, with the pressures of fame and touring taking a toll.
In 1981 Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad also announced their divorce. It marked the beginning of the end for ABBA. After the double divorce, the group struggled to produce new material and eventually decided to take a break. Although rumors of a reunion have circulated for years, the members of ABBA have not performed together since 1982.
The divorce of Agnetha and Björn inspired the song "The Winner Takes It All", which was written by Ulvaeus. The lyrics describe the end of a relationship and the pain of separation.
The album was announced alongside the news of the ABBA Voyage concert series, which takes place at a custom-built arena in London starting in May 2022. The concerts feature ABBA’s holographic avatars, which were created using motion capture technology to capture the movements and mannerisms of the group’s four members. The ABBAtars perform alongside a 10-piece live band and a 16-piece orchestra, creating a unique and immersive concert experience for fans.
After more than 40 years since the last album release, ABBA fans were thrilled to hear that the iconic Swedish pop group was back with a new album and a series of hologram concerts.
